LOVE

Love,
A word that makes you
Look back again when mentioned.
It's the oil that protects
relationship
From corrosion.
It's the air that blows back to life
The fading light of togetherness.
Little wonder,
Paul postulates that it never fails.
That's why it persists when THE
OTHER is erring.
It never ceases
Cos it's never stilled.
Its absence means war.
It makes the world go round.
Love
Makes you see farther,
Think deeper and work harder.
Love trills you believe in the mist of
difficulties
And make you proudly say 'I CAN'.
Like elephant's meat,
It's noth predictable,
It might be sweet and even bitter.
Unlike bird of all roses.
Xtains, muslims, boys, girls, married
and unmarried;
Everyone needs it.

Reactions over Orton's plan to swear in paramount ruler with bible

A former Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav, has accused Governor Samuel Ortom of annoying the ancestors of the land by trying to contaminate the Tiv culture.
Ortom had told a church congregation a few days ago that the next Tor Tiv (paramount ruler of the Tiv speaking people) would hold the Bible to take the oath of office instead of invoking Swem-(the god of Tiv people), which is the traditional means of ascending the throne.
Ortom made the remarks while addressing the congregation during a church service held at the Chapel of Grace, Government House, to mark the end of a three-day fasting and prayer session to enable peaceful selection of a new Tor Tiv.
Dr. Alfred Torkula Akawe, the former Tor Tiv, died last year.
However, the former police commissioner who reacted to the governor’s remarks in Makurdi, urged him to “allow the people choose their next Tor Tiv, instead of tactically interfering with tradition after promising not to do so”.
“Why will Ortom not allow the Tor-Tiv to abide by Tiv culture and tradition? Why can’t the Tiv people display their own culture like the Ife people and Bini did recently? Ortom may be annoying our ancestors. He must not contaminate our culture,” Tsav said.
Also reacting, social media activist, Festus Fator Yisa said, “The proposal by Governor Samuel Ortom that the next Tor Tiv be sworn in using a Bible instead of the usual ‘Swem’ in my opinion is a deliberate attempt to bastardize the Tiv culture.
“His reason that the ‘Swem’ has failed us is baseless in my opinion. With all due respect to Christianity and religion in general, how much has the Bible on its part saved us? Posterity will bear me witness that I never succumbed to this glaring cultural homicide.”

World Teacher's Day; a teacher reveals new method of learning Mathematics

Mrs. Essien Bassey, a Mathematics teacher at Pegasus High School, Eket, Akwa Ibom State, has said that her method of “preaching mathematics like a church sermon” has helped greatly in sustaining the interest of her students in the subject.
Bassey who accompanied her student to the venue of the on-going 2016 Cowbellpedia Mathematics Television Quiz Show in Lagos explained that math is a subject that requires a lot of emotions on the part of the teacher and students. “I have found out that Math, like religion, requires a lot of emotions; and since I discovered this, I have changed my tactics. Now I preach Math, I don’t teach it.
The Bible is full of parables which Jesus used to illustrate his teachings that appeared difficult to his followers. The parables simplify the stories and consequently connect to the emotions of the listeners. The same I do in my class and it is working,” she told journalists.
She maintained that Math is an emotional subject that should be taught with a lot of conviction, to achieve short and long-term objectives. “The short-term goal is for the students to pick enough interest to pass the subject, while the long-term goal, for me, is to convert the students to great mathematicians,”
Bassey who has been teaching math for the past 13 years, said.
Her student, UwakmfomUtuk and Ademola Fatoke of Ota Total Academy, qualified for the semi-final in the Senior category. The duo overcame Oluwaseun Emoda of Scholars Universal Sec. School, Ota, Ogun State; BukolaAbolarin of Landmark University Sec. School, Omu-Aran, Kwara State; Nathaniel Damale of Aleka Academy, Ankpa, Kogi State and Immaculate Conception Secondary School, Bauchi, Bauchi State.
In the Junior category, Oreofe Daniel of The Ambassador College, Ota, and Micah Gabriel of Evangel College, Gombe, Gombe State qualified for the semi-finals. The duo defeated Taofikat Tiamiyu of Scholars Universal Sec. School, Ota; Peter Atolagbe of Miracle International School, Osogbo, Osun State; Goodness Isang of Nigerian Turkish International School, Abuja and FavourAnefu of Global Kids Academy, Sokoto, Sokoto State.
Utuk and Fatoke expressed confidence about their chances to excel in the finals and promised to put in all efforts to realise the dream of winning the ultimate prize. The same sentiment was re-echoed by Gabriel and Daniel. “I thank God for the journey so far, and I pray I am able to do the needful to win the prize. This is my 2016 New Year resolution and I pray God will help me,” Daniel said.
The ultimate prize for this year’s edition is One million naira and an all-expense paid educational excursion outside the country. The teacher of the winning students will receive N400,000. The airing of the program continues this weekend.

Man left his wife in hospital over hug bill

A mother of seven, Mrs Uzoamaka Onu, 39, has been abandoned by her husband at the New Mayor Hospital and Fertility Centre, Nkpor in Anambra over a bill of N520,000.
It was reported that the woman had stayed in the hospital for four months following the non-payment of the bill.
Uzoamaka, a food vendor from Okpoto community in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi, told reporters that the husband had absconded and abandoned her to her fate.
She said that she had lived in the hospital for four months and every attempt to reach her husband had failed.
“My husband stopped visiting the hospital after I successfully underwent a surgery on my right breast,” Uzoamaka said.
She said she did not blame her husband for absconding because he had suffered a lot since 2013 when signs of cancer started manifesting.
“My husband sells rat poison and cannot afford the money to pay the balance and I think that is why he has run away.
“I am appealing to good spirited Nigerians to come to my aid and help me to get back home.
“My problem started in 2013 when I started experiencing excruciating pain in my body, specifically in my lungs.
“I started visiting patent medicine stores for solution, but unfortunately that compounded my problems.
“However, it was on the advice of some friends and family members that I decided to visit General Hospital, Abakiliki where I was diagnosed with breast cancer,” Uzoamaka said.
She said she had visited the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Enugu and Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) for solution.
Uzoamaka said that she also went to the New Mayor Hospital and Fertility Centre where she had a successful surgery, leading to outright removal of her right breast.
She said that N750,000 was the total amount by the hospital management for the surgery, with her family paying N230,000, leaving the outstanding balance.
The Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Ben Ossai, confirmed the incident, describing Uzoamaka’s case as pathetic.
Ossai said that the woman’s right breast was in a deteriorating state and was emitting offensive odour due to the devastation the ailment had caused.
“We decided to perform a surgery on her to remove the affected breast,’’ he said.
Ossai said that Uzoamaka underwent a successful surgery and had long been discharged pending when her family would pay the balance of her medical bill.
“But for four months now, her husband has not visited and we suspected he has absconded,’’ he said.

Since then, the state chapter of the party had been embroiled in crisis. Soyinka calls for quick action on NDA

Nobel laureate, Wole Soyinka, on Thursday admitted that he had been listed by militant group, Niger Delta Avengers to intervene in the dialogue between the group and the federal government.
He said this in Lagos while appealing to the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to “respond positively” to the outrage of the people of the region.
He said, “I wish to make an appeal publicly to the government, and please report me accurately, to respond positively to the outrage from the militant groups.
“That is the request which has been made by some of the groups who got me into this interventionist role in the first place. At the moment they feel that the government of President Buhari is not seriously responding to their own outrage. And I wish to make a personal appeal to the government to respond positively and let us see where it ends us.
“But I’m not part of any international group, I was approached personally and I’ve been responding personally to some of these groups just as I did when President Jonathan was in power and MEND was the umbrella group of the insurgents.
“So I make that appeal once more to the government, please respond to the efforts of these militant groups to arrive at a holistic and comprehensive solution.
Apparently afraid of being wrongly quoted, he said, “Please don’t attribute to me things I never said.”

Nigeria Army court-martialed 20 officers

The Nigerian Army, yesterday, court-martialed 20 officers and men for various offences allegedly committed within the Theatre Command of Operation Lafiya Dole in the North-East sub-region of the country.
Of the number, four are officers and their offences, according to the Army, range from selling ammunition to terrorists to murder.
Inaugurating a seven-member General Court Martial, GCM, yesterday, at the Maiduguri media centre, Acting General Officer Commanding 7 Division, Nigerian Army, Brig-Gen. Victor Ezugwu, said the court martialing of four officers and 16 men was to achieve timely and quick dispensation of justice within the framework of the statute books.
Discipline, according to him, is the bedrock of the military profession, adding that to have a disciplined body of officers and men, there must be justice.
“It is when there is justice that discipline can be achieved,” said Ezugwu while inaugurating members of the GCM.
He said it was important for the prosecution and the accused persons, including their counsels, to be mindful of this fact; and strive to shun all forms of antics that could result in frivolous adjournments and delays in trial processes.
Ezugwu, who noted that justice delayed was justice denied, said: “For the President, Brig-Gen. Olusegun Adeniyi and six other members of the court martial to dispense this all important assignment in accordance with the extant laws, ensure that your opinions on all the cases brought before you are not in any way beclouded with bias, external pressure or by extraneous factors.”
He said the outcome of the court martial must be based on careful appreciation of the whole facts of each case and evidence placed before the court martial.
For the accused, Ezugwu said: “Be assured that you are all presumed innocent until this honourable court finds otherwise. Your rights to fair hearing and other fundamental human rights would be adhered to throughout this trial.”
He said the Nigerian Army, through the court martialing, would not condone cases of violation of laws of armed conflict in the discharge of constitutional responsibilities.
He, however, noted that the accused persons could appeal verdicts passed by the GCM at the Appeal and Supreme courts.

RCCG General Overseer read out riot act to Pastors and Members

THE General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has frowned at ministers of the gospel growing beards in the name of new fashion, just as he declared that as tough as things are in the nation today, "we are not owing anybody any salary.
"I don't want to see any of my pastors looking like fellows from the training camps of Al-Qaeda," he said, stating that any elderly person who cannot show the noble journey for the youths in terms of dressing is not worthy to be described as an elder.
According to him, the youths are young and they don't know where they are going, but if you watch closely you will find that they don't know where they are going, noting "they often look up to their fathers for direction but if a father himself does not know what he is doing then there something wrong.
"The youths don't respect an elder that looks like them. You are supposed to be their guiding light after they have fooled around," Adeboye stated, saying pastors should be clean shaven at all times and must not in any way grow beards that will portray them as persons of different persuasion.
He also decreed that anybody who brings tribalism into the church should either leave the church immediately or will soon die like Annanais and Sapphira.
In the same vein, he said no pastor has the church's blessing to impose Yoruba songs as part of the church sevice in other parts of the country, emphasising the need for pastors in other parts of the country to encourage the locals to sing and rejoice in their local dialects.
The 74-year General Overseer also enjoined all pastors in the church to regularly do a medical check up to avoid unnecessary and sudden deaths that can be avoided if the proper thing is done.
Worried about various reports of arranged marriages among brethren some of which have been linked to various disruptions in several relationships, Pastor Adeboye also decreed that no RCCG pastor should be seen to be involved in arranging marriages among brethren in the church.
We recall that Pastor Adeboye has earlier counselled youths of the church on marriage, saying "don’t ever marry outside the church and you have no reason to marry outside RCCG. The reason is that if you are both from the same church even when trouble comes it is easier for the pastors to handle it!
"Don’t marry a girl simply because she can sing! In the choir there are some people that can sing but they are fallen angels! Marry a prayer warrior! If a girl cannot pray for one hour, don’t marry her.
"Don’t marry a girl who is lazy! Don’t marry a girl who cannot cook, she needs to know how to do chores and cook because you cannot afford to be eating out all the time.
"Don’t marry a girl who is worldly! If you do, you have carried what you’ll worship for the rest of your life!" he advised.
The General Overseer also announced the establishment of an Investigation Committee to assist the mission on issues bordering on security.

It was a journey in which we shared childhood memories and grown-up dreams. We are back because brothers do not let each other wander in the dark alone. We are back because we have tried the lonely road and it was not the same.
I want to take responsibility for what has happened and sincerely apologise to you our fans. Ribado Returns to APC

The former EFCC has announced his return to the Am Progressive Congress Friday. The Adamawa born Politician made this revelation on his facebook account thus:

I have finally heeded the calls on me to return to the All Progressives Congress (APC), a party of which I was a founding member.

I re-registered as a member of the APC on Thursday through the party’s online portal. After that, the leadership of the party in my Bako ward of Yola South Local Government Area visited me in my Yola residence to welcome me back to their fold.

My decision to return to the APC was triggered by my believe that all politics are local. Almost everyone around me, and with whom we started my political journey believed the time had come for us to make sacrifices and make concessions. That is in addition to the unbelievable love that my friends in the APC have showered on me in the past months.

They demonstrated in words and action that they wanted me back home.

I also did a deep and long reassessment of the circumstances that warranted my exit from the APC in the first place. I left the APC in 2014 owing to fundamental disagreements with the ways the chapter of the party in my state was run after it fell into some hands.

Some colleagues and I tried hard to save the then APC administration from an orchestrated impeachment plot which was unfortunately carried out with active collaboration of some ranking APC members in the state.

However, events in the last 15 months have addressed many of the issues and healed some of the wounds. More so, with the genuine and sincere invitations I received since last year to retrace my steps into the party, I decided to return after consulting family and political associates at all levels.

I would like to appreciate all those members of the party who privately and publicly prodded me to return to the party. My appreciation also goes to the leadership of our party, from my ward in Bako to the national leadership, for the enthusiasm they showed in having me back.

Why Paul Le Guen rejected Eagles' job

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Tuesday in Abuja confirmed that Frenchman Paul Le Guen has rejected the job of Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles it offered him.
The news of the rejection came in less than 24 hours after he was recommended for appointment.
The Technical and Development Committee of the NFF had on Monday, after its meeting in Abuja, recommended Le Guen to its Executive Committee for appointment as Super Eagles Technical Adviser.
Paul Bassey, a member of the committee, had told newsmen that Le Guen’s was recommended to the executive committee even before concluding agreement on contract terms.
``Baring agreement on contract terms, emoluments, allowances and entitlements, Le Guen becomes the Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles,’’ he had said.
About 24 hours later, the NFF confirmed the Frenchman’s rejection of offer of appointment in a statement by Ademola Olajire, its Assistant Director of Communications.
Why Le Guen rejected Super Eagles job
The statement quoted Chairman of NFF’s Media and Publicity Committee, Suleiman Yahaya-Kwande, as saying Le Guen said he was not ready to live in Nigeria while working for Nigeria.
``Apart from this, he also did not want to be given a target,’’ Yahaya-Kwande said in the statement.
``The statement on the recommendations was clear, to the effect that all appointments made at the Technical and Development Committee meeting were mere recommendations, which had to be deliberated upon and agreed to by the board,’’ he added.
However, a top source in the NFF who preferred not to be mentioned said Le Guen cited insecurity in the country as part of his reasons for rejecting the offer.
``The fear of a state of insecurity and other disagreements accounted for his rejection of the Eagles job we offered him.
``We were sceptical when Le Guen insisted he was not going to live in the country and we all remember the last experience we had with Sunday Oliseh.
``In fact, Le Guen’s refusal to live in Nigeria was the first point of disagreement and we don't want to hire another Oliseh as coach of the Super Eagles, who will not live in the country.
``So, we had no option than to terminate the contract discussion because his position of living outside Nigeria while working for Nigeria will not augur well for the country’s football.
``This can also jeopardise the World Cup target we promised Nigerians,’’ the source said.
He argued that allowing Le Guen have his way could compromise the target set for him.
The source also said the Frenchman insisted he would accept the contract if only he would be visiting the country few weeks to the team’s matches.
NAN gathered further that Le Guen had expressed concern over a clause in his proposed contract which required that he would be travelling to different parts of the country.
The essence of such travels was for him to harness the potential of players on the domestic scene.
``It was the fear of what he considers as insecurity in the country that forced him to decline the offer.
``But let me put it on record that the federation has not offered Le Guen the employment. It was just a recommendation by the Technical and Development Committee.’’
The NFF top official also pointed out that the federation would not go ahead to approve the recommendation of its technical and development committee against the wish of Nigerians.
He however insisted that the decision to disregard the committee’s recommendation had nothing to do with finance.
NFF General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi declined to comment on the development.

UK To Get Cameron's Successor on Wednesday Evening

Theresa May will on Wednesday become the prime minister tasked with leading Britain's into Brexit talks after her only rival in the race to succeed David Cameron pulled out unexpectedly.

According to Aljazeera.com,
May was left as the only contender standing after the withdrawal from the leadership race of Andrea Leadsom, who faced criticism for suggesting she was more qualified to be premier because she had children.
“I am honored and humbled to have been chosen by the conservative party to become its leader,” said Theresa May in London after she was formally confirmed as the winner of the conservative leadership contest on Monday afternoon.
“During this campaign, my case has been based on three things. First, the need for strong, proven leadership to steer us through what will be difficult and uncertain economic and political times; the need to negotiate the best deal for Britain in leaving the EU; and to forge a new role for ourselves in the world.”
David Cameron said he would resign as prime minister on Wednesday, paving the way for May to take over the job the same day.
Cameron said he expected to chair his last cabinet meeting on Tuesday and then take questions in parliament for around 30 minutes from 1100 GMT on Wednesday.
"After that I expect to go to (Buckingham Palace) and offer my resignation," he told reporters outside his office in Downing Street. "So we will have a new prime minister in that building behind me by Wednesday evening."
